Ben Coughlan is an award-winning trial lawyer with a sub-specialty in head injury cases. Coughlan is known for handling some of the most serious brain injury cases in California. He is co-founder and partner of Coughlan & Vinel, LLP in Del Mar, California.
Coughlan is the incoming President-Elect of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. He is also the editor of the Tort Law section of the Trial Bar News, San Diego’s trial lawyer’s magazine. He is the immediate past vice president of the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation, and regularly works to support brain injury survivors in his free time. Coughlan co-authored and edited A Journey Towards Recovery: A Brain Injury Guide for Survivors. He has been an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) for the last six years. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law.

Before pursuing a career in law, Coughlan spent four years in the media relations department of the San Diego Padres–where he met his wife Kathleen–focusing on team publications, player and team public relations, and media relationships.
Coughlan was born and raised in San Diego. He resides with his wife Kathleen, son Jack (4) and daughter Mackenzie (1) in Solana Beach, California.
