The Hon. Superior Court Judge Randa Trapp is an experienced judge who has also spent more than a decade in private practice. A native San Diegan and veteran of the United States Navy, she was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law and has served on numerous boards and commissions including the Law Library Justice Foundation, the United Negro College Fund San Diego Campaign Board of Directors, and the African American National Advisory Committee of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Judge Trapp has also received numerous awards and tributes including the YWCA's Tribute to Women in Industry (TWIN) Award, the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association's Thurgood Marshall Award, and the Palvara Tree Living African American Legend award. She was honored by the San Diego City Council proclaiming October 15, 2001, "Randa Trapp Day", in 2004 she was honored by the California State Legislature as “Woman of the Year” for the 79th Assembly District, in 2008 Judge Trapp was awarded the prestigious California Association of Black Lawyers “Bernard S. Jefferson Judge of the Year Award”, in 2009 she was awarded the Sankofa Award by the National Bar Association, in 2011 and 2014 she received the Chair’s Award from the NBA Judicial Council and in 2013, she received the Service Award from the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association.
She is a past president of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association and past Regional Director of the California Women Lawyers. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the California Association of Black Lawyers as well as Lawyers Club of San Diego. She currently serves on the Lawyers Club Advisory Board, is President of the J. Clifford Wallace Inn of Court, Chair of the Judicial Advisory Board of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and is a former Chair of the National Bar Association Judicial Council.
